This year the fifth annual Nova Scotia Open Data Contest will be held virtually.
Registration will be open between February 5 - 25, 2021 and the submission deadline is noon March 1, 2021.
The Province of Nova Scotia is holding its fifth annual Open Data Contest in conjunction with International Open Data Day (March 6, 2021). The contest will be a virtual event this year following the submission process outlined below. There will be cash prizes
for winning submissions, including a top prize of $5000, a second prize
of $2500, and a third prize of $1000. We are calling on students,
entrepreneurs and citizens to respond to the following challenge:
Develop a working App that is innovative,
easy-to-use, and has the potential to benefit Nova Scotia citizens or
businesses in a Covid environment. The App must use at least one dataset
from the Nova Scotia Open Data Portal and be able to demonstrate it’s
benefit to Nova Scotians and relevance to an active pandemic. The App
can have broad application in any area such as tourism, education, heath
and wellness, economic development, community and lifestyle.
Your solutions will be judged on specific criteria including:
- Value proposition (to citizens, business, or government)
- Feasibility and usefulness
- Creativity and innovation
- Ease of use and esthetics
**NOTE: Solutions that do not use a NS Open Data dataset within the solution will not be considered for a prize/award.
Participants may register and participate as an individual or as a team (with maximum of 5 members per team allowed).
