The MRDF is designed to assist prospectors, exploration companies, and researchers, employ post-secondary students, and support projects in the mining sector that attract investment and grow Nova Scotia's economy and create jobs, especially in rural areas. The data published includes the file number, the Grant recipient, the applicant, the Company, the Project Name, the Commodity and the Amount awarded.

- MRDF is the acronym for Mineral Resources Development Fund. Education, Outreach, and Engagement Grants provide up to $50K. Innovation Grants provide currently up to $100K, from 2018-2020 they provided up to $200K. Major Projects Grants offer up to $500K (or higher if required). Marketing Grants don't currently have a $ amount threshold (as they are typically used for conferences). Post Secondary Research Grants offer up to $90K. Prospecting and Exploration Grants offered in 2021-22, up to a maximum of $30K (plus $5K for student funding available); In 2020-21, they offered up to a maximum of $30K (plus $5K for student funding available); In 2019-20, they offered up to a maximum of $20K (plus $5K for student funding available); In 2018-19, they offered up to a maximum of $20K. Research Grants offer a maximum of $90K. Shared Funding Exploration Grants offer in 2021-22, >$30K up to $100K (50/50); In 2020-21, >$30K up to $200K (50/50); In 2019-20, >$20K up to $200K (50/50) and in 2018-19, >$20K up to $200K (50/50). Tier II Marketing Grant, only for 2019-20, offered a maximum of $90K.
